Objective
The purpose of the Site Analysis is to observe and record the site’s current condition, and to collect
additional information to be used in the initial design conceptualization and strategy phase.
Key concepts and themes to be discussed in relation to the analysis include:
Way-finding (5 Lynchian Principles),
Typology and Morphology,
Figure/Ground Mapping,
Patterns of Movement and Use,
Human Behaviour,
Street Culture
To seek and investigate existing knowledge on similar scheme and sustainable architecture that respond to the basic natural context such as the sun, wind, heat, cold, energy issue, and context. The main aim is to analyse architectural precedents for:
1. Spatial typology
2. Spatial programming
3. Poetic relationship between the built and natural setting.

Precedent Studies
What is an Urban Infill?
This investigation is to help you understand what an urban infill is, and what are the architectural strategies
(massing, spatial planning, façade design, etc.) adopted that are necessary in response to its physical
context and functional programme. Investigate what were the regulatory laws that the architects were
required to comply to as well.
What is a Market-Place?
In this module, we shall define the market-place as a “centre for retail and commercial trade that also acts
as social meeting grounds for an urban/suburban community”. This part of the Precedent Study entails an
investigation into a relevant example of a market-place and inquiry into establishing its role within its specific
context and community.
Project 2 : Urban Infill
Objective
The objectives of this assignment are as follows:
1. To take into consideration key aspects of urban design and context in relation to architecture.
2. To develop an awareness and basic compliance to Design Codes and Statutory Requirements.
3. To emphasize the importance of elevational context and composition in developing architectural design.
4. To implement and explore the conceptual, schematic and design development phases in an architectural design project
1. Produce a design outcome for an urban contemporary market-place is site-specific through its formal, cultural, legislative, structural and environmental design responses.
2. Apply basic knowledge of urban architectural typologies, infill design strategies and market-place programming.
3. Demonstrate fundamental knowledge and awareness of design codes and regulations
4. Design within the constraints of feasibility and in response to basic design codes and statutory requirements
5. Utilise study models, diagramming, mapping, orthographic plan-section and elevational studies to explore and resolve relevant spatial, structural, functional and environmental issues in the design development phase.
6. Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), models and presentations to verbally and visually communicate architectural ideas and scheme.
